Davoto

Invoked by sea- and space-farers alike, Davoto holds the domains of Death, Water, and Ice.

In the Book of Aster, the concept of death precedes Davoto himself, but it is unclear whether any creatures actually perished before his creation. In the Dav, it is claimed that no creature had died a natural death before his creation. Thus, he was created to spare Aster and Extiru from dealing with rampant overpopulation.

Referred to as the Gate Keeper, and The Unending Gaze due to his ability to remove the soul from the body and begin the process of death, Davoto’s blessing is also sought by those who sail both space and water, in addition to those who prepare the dead.

A few centuries before the Timekeeping Reset, Davoto was the first deity to be granted a Sentient Species. Despite periods of impatience towards his Avotoc, his attitude towards mortal life in general is seen as the kindest of the Deities save for Aster. He recognizes the Sentient Species as more than just tools to further the Deities’ goals and planning, though reluctant to give them free reign compared to Aster.

Known as Lieyos in Aevot, the ice grows in blue-green crystals and are seen across Pale Shores, though not often. This ice is a manifestation of Davoto’s power over water and ice.

Davoto‘s power is so great that this ice does not melt at a normal temperature, and usually only melts after a great number of years of direct daylight exposure, in addition to being dry. Any contact with water seems to make Lieyos un-meltable, unless directly acted upon by Davoto or another avoc wielding his power. Many avocs have been known to wield this power—the first being Sca and her son Lu’Sca.
