If you are somehow unfamiliar with the concept, there are numerous caves dotting the shores around the waters of Pale Shores. While there are a large number of geographical features across the planet-stars we call home, this text seeks to share some insights on caves. These caves can range from simplistic resting pools filled by high tides, to elaborate systems that extend significantly inland. There is some debate between whether caves and cave systems entirely detached from any seas should continue to be included, however since we have found some non-sea caves that fit the description discussed further we will include them in this categorization.

Specifically, the caves we seek to discuss are those that we know to be used or have been used for some purpose. This is not much of a description, yes. To be clear, we know that a large number of caves have clearly been lived in, but no clear evidence as to who or when. There are signs of life: designs on walls, free-standing structures that are clearly carved, and idols that roughly resemble modern relics and worship altars. We are unsure as to when or how recently these caves were used or lived in, and exactly what they were or are being used for, as we have been unable to witness avoc traveling to and from the caves, though there are reports of still-warm ashes from fires being found.

What we do know is that the young avoc tend to be drawn to these caves. They will not speak of the caves when asked directly or indirectly, and once they become aware they are being followed, will not continue towards the caves for days or weeks. There is some unspoken communication about the caves and young avoc, as nearly every community I’ve traveled to has this phenomenon. Perhaps one day we will know.
