Chapter 1

1: All beginnings must come to an
end and in this new universe
that bore true as well. Once each end
was known as a constant, all life
had beginning and end to see
to, and balance was restored. In
this balance the Eight found peace. The
balance too must end at some time,
and the balance would give way to
chaos. As the Eight helped with each
other’s domains, each of the Eight
learned domain-death of another.
Though Water sought peace of balance,
he could not forget these lessons.
15: Peace came to an end when Death had
outlasted the purpose set for
him by Life. However, none of
the Eight were to meet their own end.
All are Life and Death in their own
ways, all gifted aspects of both
creation and destruction. The
Eight themselves brought an end to peace
when they no longer required
Death to remove their mistakes from
the universe. Instead as they
grew, the role of Death diminished
given that Water instead was
tasked with overseeing the end
of each and every beginning.
30: After much time of peace, Death told
Water of a false-end that was
created by Magik. Water
traveled to undo the false-end,
instead found himself trapped inside
a star with Fire and Soil.
Little time passed before Light too,
was inside the star. Here, Water
could not be sure how much but knew
that time had passed before all but
Death were inside the star. He knew
the patterns of thought that made up
Magic and Life, and Magik too
was trapped. The story of a false-
end was itself false and a trap.
45: Water watched as Fire became
one with the prison in some time
later, and by the violence that
shook Omneutta around the star-
prison Water knew that Fire
and Death were at war. Once he was
certain of this, he noticed that
the thought patterns of Magik were
no longer present inside the
star-prison either. The escape
of Fire was both obvious
and interesting, but Magik
escaping was mysterious
and was only mysterious.
59: While time passed unnoticed Water
drew still until great violence
shook Omneutta. Water looked out
among the stars to find Fire
and Death emerging from two more
star-prisons. Their form was changed, but
Water knew the thought-patterns of
each immediately. When the
two recognized their freedom, the
violence resumed, and Water, Life,
Light, Soil, and Magic did their
best to intervene. Magik was
nowhere, not to be found or felt.
72: The fighting did not cease, and as
the Eight drew evermore power
from within, they found themselves no
longer bound to simple forms by
the tools of Life. Soon Water would
appear made from bones of those he
brought to their end. Each of the Eight
transfigured as the fight moved from
central Omneutta where they had
broken free to the fringes. The
Eight pushed at the universe with
their violence, expanding it with
each act. Fire and Death chased each
other with Water and the rest
in tow. No matter how drawn out
the violence was, Life could not wield
the act needed to end the fight.
89: It took creation from Soil,
wielded as violence, to cease the
fighting. A new form, an unknown
material was created,
one that would seal itself from the
impact Fire put forward at
once. Water watched as first Fire,
then Light was put in prisons made
from this new material by
Soil. Water did not know if
he was next, but could sense that soon
only Magik and Soil were
free, outside of these new prisons.
102: The thought-patterns of Soil and
Magik were alive with cries of
freedom, and a sensation from
Soil of frustration. Water
sensed this feeling erode over
time, and his thoughts were crowded by
increasing beginnings with no
end. Before Water could bear these
thoughts no longer, he hatched a plan
to free himself from the prison
of the new material. The
ice grew slowly, forming crystals
around Water, expanding out
equally in all directions
at once until the prison could
no longer remain as it was.
118: Water searched for Soil, seeking
an end to the beginnings of
great number. Soil would not hear
Water. Because so much of the
universe met Death-end that much
time would pass before Water was
needed. Soil would not heed the
words of Water, so Water grew
to many waves, crashing, roaring
until he would be heard. Water
could not take Soil to Death-end
but brought her close enough. Water
washed over Omneutta slowly,
bringing an end to the quickly
created life one by one. Time
passed, but Water did not notice.
There were always more beginnings
than Water had the time to end.
146: Water felt Magik move slowly
across Omneutta but paid her
no mind until it was almost
too late. While he toiled away
Water was cursed by Magik. He
knew instantly he would dry up,
he would shrivel in time. Before
he lost all power Water struck
back at Magik, wounding her. She
fled, but could not outrun Water
as he coursed behind her in his
weakened state. Magik travelled to
her brother’s watchful place, and the
door was sealed with some of the last
power Water had. Alone, he
had not the strength to even make
himself a perch. In this broken
state did Light find Water. Light brought
Soil, begging for Water to
help him make Soil whole again.
Her wound from Water was deep, deep
enough that she was too close to
Death-end. Water refused. Soil
would not hear his pleas, he would not
hear Light’s pleas on her behalf now.
Light shone brightly. Water gave in.
Together Water and Light made
Soil’s soul and body complete.
174: The trio of Water, Light, and
Soil had not even the time
to regain their power and their
energy before Death burst forth
once more, enraged and in a new,
more powerful form than before.
With a dangerous ease, the Eight
were sent out of the universe,
into a new place. Magik too.
There was no where in this new place,
and yet Life had memories of
this realm. The seven became still
smaller and smaller and yet there
was no size they could reach that let
them belong in this place. They grew
once more, pulling the realm with them
until they had the room to breathe,
to think. It was in this place that
they made peace among themselves, a
pact to return to balance once
they returned to their universe.
As it were centuries ago,
Life was the first to find a way
into Omneutta again, and
the remaining six followed suit.
199: Many battles were waged. After much
time, Death was convinced to resume
his original and much less
powerful form. Yet, Death was just
as the rest and their work would last
only as long as his violence
was delayed. The purer form of
Death appeared again and again,
and the other seven would come
together to subdue Death back
into his original form
each time. After she had enough
of this, Magik created an
artifact that would secure their
peace, keeping Death subdued in the
less powerful form forever.
215: Life brought in the other seven
and tasked them each with pieces of
a plan to rebuild Omneutta
as it was before the violence
they shared tore it apart. Water
and Fire would share their knowledge
to be recorded as the Eight
rebuilt Omneutta from center-
origin outwards. Death again
was unhappy with his stake and
his records vanished instantly.
The Eight convened with a purpose.
With all their powers combined, the
Eight strained for much time to build a
single star in the center. On
this star would be land, shared by all
Eight. The shared great hall would hold all
records of equal importance
and would be called Ttimeaut.
There, they would council when needed.
235: In this great hall Life told the Eight
that their homes across Omneutta
had separated them in all
aspects and built up distrust. They
all knew this to be true. Life made
lands around the great hall, one for
each of the Eight to be transformed
as they saw fit. These areas
would be large swaths of land, bending
around their large star. On their own
piece of land each of the Eight would
use aspects of Life’s creation
abilities. With a loud clap,
Life produced eight thrones and coloured
tapestries to adorn the main
chamber. To the surprise of all,
Magik stood up and proposed a
vow of peace, and with the help of
Magic, balance. The vow would be
simple, yet all-encompassing.
There was no violence between the
Eight, and the vow even forbade the
other seven from Water’s land
around the star if he so chose.
259: For Water, the time of peace passed
with much difficulty. Despite
creating another home deep
into the universe, Water
always felt there was always too
much to do. Time was unending,
yet there was never enough of
it. Water sought out Life for help
in needing more time to complete
his role. Water needed help to
carry his domain’s burdens. Life
suggested another and the
two agreed. Water was across
Omneutta back and forth with each
being at their end, putting their
bodies in a location that
Light could easily find for his
own work. Life created a being
in Water’s image, with their own
thought-pattern, and an aspect of
Water’s power. Soon, Water found
this insufficient as this being
created a new problem and
Life made another being in the
same image, with new thought-patterns
and another piece of Water’s
power. As time flowed, Water found
himself with seven beings when the
problems were solved and called the beings
in his image the Avotoc.
289: Once each of the Ontautt had
a species—Aster had the Eight
and each of the other seven had
a Sentient Species—Water
and Fire raised a concern. Each
soul passed from Water to Life could
count how long it had been alive
by the number of rotations
of their great star that had passed in
its lifetime but there was no way
to track when the beginning and
end were, only how far apart.
All Eight agreed that a form of
time should be kept from a point, to
go backwards and forwards in each
direction marking a new age.
Water suggested that time would
begin with the first Avotoc,
and notated in reverse to
the point when Life appeared. The Eight
did not agree, each suggesting
a different point to mark in time.
311: Years and lives passed in Omneutta;
generations came and went as
the Eight met once each rotation
of the great star until they came
could deny the solution no
longer. When Water and Fire’s
species met, as they would soon, this
would split time in two parts: what came
before and what came after. Life
decreed at this point forward that
the Eight would promise to the beings in
their image that Omneutta was
now theirs to explore and care for.
The Eight would no longer be in
the lives of mortals. To Water
and many of the Eight, having
to return to their roles without
the mortals created to aid
them was not the right choice to make.
