Ypx here—today we’re going to be listening to “Biome Fest” from Minecraft.

This was added to the game in the Music Update in late 2013. Unlike many modern games that feature expansions, updates, and other downloadable content, Minecraft has long had free updates to the basic game itself, as its creator believed it to be a continual work in progress. The composer C418 only released two albums worth of music for the game – the second of which features Biome Fest – but has not worked with the game’s current developers for any updates since.

This track – one of my favourites from Volume Beta – begins with a synth choir but soon features something that sets it apart from the majority of Alpha: percussion. The middle portion of the track features cascading synths, non-pitched percussion, and bell ostinatos that come together all at just the right time before slowly fading back to the synth choirs.
