Ypx here—today we’re going to be listening to “Ephemeral Memory” from Chrono Cross.
Released as a sort-of sequel to Chrono Trigger released in 1999 for the PlayStation by Square (before -Enix). Unlike its predecessor, this game is mostly in 3D, though the sprite-based aspects of the game are from different vantage points than top-down to give a faux-3D appearance. It retains many of the same gameplay aspects and dual-world mechanics to facilitate the story.
We start off with a digital piano sound that evokes a melancholy feeling, one of remembrance. The main instrument of the piece is a reed instrument, a woodwind that plays a melody line over the chordal accompaniment of the digital piano. This melody line adds to the somber feeling of the track, and we get to hear it a second time around the two minute mark.
